Stipends

Resident’s Salary

  • First year - $50,104.00
  • Second year - $51,959.00
  • Third year - $54,077.00

Meals

Meals will be provided free of charge to residents while on call.

CME Allowance

  • Continuing Medical Education for five (5) days per academic year. The time is not allowed to accumulate.

As of July 1, 2010, residents will be allotted money to use for educational purposes based on their year of training. Residents must request reimbursement for their purchases prior to June 15th to be guaranteed reimbursement on purchases for the previous academic year. Reimbursement for educational resources will be considered, however it is up to the discretion of the faculty and staff of Clarkson Family Medicine to approve any reimbursement. In general, books, USMLE Step 3 registration, computer hardware, educational computer software, continuing medical education expenses (including food, travel, lodging and registration for courses completed prior to graduation) and other educational resources will be considered for reimbursement. All reimbursement must be in accordance with the policies and regulations of The Nebraska Medical Center (Policy FN01: Travel). All expenses must be incurred and completed prior to graduation to qualify for reimbursement. CME conference registration, testing, travel or any other expenses incurred after the effective graduation date will not be eligible for reimbursement.

Allotted CME funds in the 2010-2011 fiscal year for each class are as follows:

HO1: $700                     HO2: $900                     HO3: $2000

The amount of the available funds is subject to change at the beginning of each new fiscal year.

Time Away

Each academic year residents are allowed 20 days of vacation and five days of CME. The American Board of Family Medicine states that absences from the program for vacation or illness must not exceed a combined total of one month (30 calendar days or 21 working days per academic year).

Health Insurance

Residents and their families are covered by the hospital's group health plan and accident plan, as it exists on the date of employment and as may be amended from time to time.

Dental Insurance

Coverage is available as an additional benefit at the resident's option for an additional fee.

Life Insurance

The Nebraska Medical Center will provide term life insurance coverage with the death benefit equal to one times the resident's annual salary in accordance with the hospital employee benefit plan as it exists on the date of employment and as may be amended.

Disability

The Nebraska Medical Center provides disability insurance for its residents in accordance with the hospital employee benefit plan as it exists on the date of employment and as may be amended from time to time.

Liability Insurance

Residents are covered by liability insurance for all patient encounters during their assigned rotations and the Family Medicine Center. "Tail" coverage is also provided for any claims arising after completion of the residency relating to patient care during residency.

Daycare

Daycare may be available for residents’ children at The Family Place, located directly East of Clarkson Family Medicine. Daycare is contingent upon space available, for residents' children between the ages of six weeks and six years. The daycare expenses are at a reduced rate for The Nebraska Medical Center employees.

Parking

The hospital provides residents' parking free of charge.
